NHASITAFARA

This exciting, young thirteen piece band from Brighton, fuse the sounds of traditional Zimbabwean mbira music with the powerful brass and vocal sounds of afro-beat and funk. Their influences range from Fela Kuti, Bob Marley,Thomas Mapfumo, Tony Allen and Burning Spear.

The various musicians invovled in this powerful collective formed out of the vibrant and talented Brighton music scene. Combining many various cultural and musical backgrounds - these musicians have come together under the universal banner of "Nhasitafara", meaning "today, we are happy" in the language of the Shona tribe.

The musical and spiritual guiding force behind the band is Papa Linos (Linos Magaya Wengara) a renowned mbira player, teacher and traditional Zimbabwean healer. He has teamed up members of his band "Zimbaremabwe" with the amazing players from the old-school funk bands "Big Daddy Moochin" (BDM) and afro-cuban upstarts "Kalakuta Millionaires".

Their sound is heavy, tight and unique. They combine the smooth sounds of their three, beautiful backing singers with the energy of the three piece horn section. Guitars and keyboards weave complex patterns over the pounding sounds of the rhythm section and percussion. They never fail to get their audiences dancing, smiling and singing along, with awesome performances at this summers festivals (Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, OneLove Reggae Festival, Beachdown, Frequency...)
